SO WHAT IS SERVICE CONTINUUM?

The best way to describe Service Continuum is a perpetual meeting of peoples’ needs in the name of Jesus Christ.  The most effective way to reach anyone is by breaking the ice through service in love and action.  We believe service opens doors that otherwise may not open.  So whatever the need: working on someone’s car, working on someone’s yard, remodeling a room in someone’s house or changing a light bulb, all these things are physical needs that can be used as a humble conduit into the heart of those served.  The beauty of all this is that The Holy Spirit does all of the spiritual work through those who serve (even you!).  Our Job is simply to love those individuals being served and guard their dignity.

We never want anyone to feel demeaned or looked down upon.  Our prime ambition is to be obedient to our God and extend the same Grace that God is continually showing us.  Those who serve will be empowered with very simple instructions and training that take the awkwardness out of serving on a project by project basis.  Our #1 goal is for people who are being served to feel the Love of Jesus Christ, Himself!

The Love of our Savior is imperative, and we believe it is through That Love that people become vulnerable to a changed heart towards the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In *1st Corinthians 13:1-3 God lays it out on how important it is to love one another.  This means those who are in and outside of the church.  * ”If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

In *Ephesians 4:11-12 Paul explains why Christ, Himself empowered us with our different capabilities, talents and passions.  We have them for works of service to further the Kingdom by introducing people to Christ.  When you think about it, it makes complete sense.  * ”So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…”

For example, you may have a passion for gardening or landscaping.  A brother or sister from a different congregation may have an elderly neighbor with the same passion, but they can’t do those things without assistance.  Service Continuum introduces you to this neighbor so you can serve them with Your passion.  Your kind, humble attitude just opened the door for the Holy Spirit to touch this individual.

Another example is the single mom with three children who lives across the street.  She has just lost her husband through certain circumstances and is now left with a mortgage, a house in disrepair and a car in need of maintenance.  This widow doesn’t know in whom to turn.  Normally this is a tough situation to struggle through.  NOW imagine the ability for someone to share the knowledge of these needs with a Christ centered service that will find those people who can fill those needs.  This is why Service Continuum exists.

How can you be a part of Service Continuum?

The first thing you need to do is to understand Luke 10:27, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ ; and,  ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ “   Second, fill out the Servants Questionnaire form.  And third…. look for opportunities to serve and when you find them simply contact us at headquarters.  Let us know who has the need and the nature of that need.  We call the person in need a “Referral”.

How does a Referral receive service?

The Servants Questionnaire form requests information about YOU.  This form provides us with the kinds of services you can perform and the time you are available to volunteer those services.  As soon as we receive a Referral we send out a team of delegates that will vet the referral to ensure that there is a real need.  After we establish that a need truly exists, we then humbly ask for the honor to fill that need.  When the Referral says, “Yes”, we go to the volunteer forms and find those who have the time, talent and abilities to complete the needed service.  We then organize the project and get it done.  It truly is that simple!

Is there any training?

Yes!  Depending on the level you want to engage the Referral, from simply showing up and working or to getting into a deeper discussion about the salvation message, Service Continuum will provide this training at no cost.  We always want to enter into service with a servant’s heart!

So for those of us who just want to be the physical hands and feet (i.e. doing the work), there will be a simple meeting before the project starts where we all get on the same page about the details.  There will be a more comprehensive training program to equip those of us who want to manage a project.  Those of us who wish to engage the Referral personally, a much more comprehensive training program will be offered.

What does a project look like?

Of course all projects involving a team will be different but will start the same way.  The established leader will organize the meeting before the project starts.  This meeting is meant to update the team with relevant information, allow any questions to be answered and inform of the project’s starting location.  The leader will also gather information on the tools needed, who has them and how the tools will get to the worksite.  Communication to the team with updates will continue as often as needed.   After prayer, the team will then go to the sight where materials (if any are needed) will be waiting for them.  The project leader will then provide instruction and direction while communicating with the Referral.
